What is Micro PD?

Text message courses that let you learn in bite-size chunks. Micro PD courses consist of an image, a 1,200-character concept, and an interactive assessment sent every weekday over a specific period of time.

Micro-PD Series

Cost:

  • JCISD Tech Consortium - FREE!

  • Outside the Consortium - $5/course. *Costs subject to change.

When:

  • 2021/2022 School year - You can register through Wisdomwhere at any time using the registration links. (Courses must be completed before May 31st to receive SCECHs.)

How it works:

  1. Once you have registered for a course through Wisdomewhere you will receive an email confirmation and information on how to sign up for the Arist text messages.

  2. While signing up for Arist you will set up the time your messages will be delivered.

  3. Text messages for these courses will arrive on your phone for 3-10 consecutive days (not including weekends) based on the length of the specific course.

  4. Your 3-10 days can begin at any time during the registration window.

  5. We know time and energy are limited, so these courses are designed to make it manageable for educators to learn new information. You can receive SCECHs for the courses by responding via text message to a daily question.

Asynchronous Instruction

Length: 10 Days

Description: Asynchronous instruction means your students can access the content on their own time. Though video instruction is the most common asynchronous learning method, you could also be using podcasts, websites, documents, images, or any other type of on-demand content. In this course, we will primarily be focusing on video content.

Remote Assessment Part 1

Description: Assessment is a critical part of any learning environment. Assessment provides us with data into how and what our students are learning. It can help us understand where our students are succeeding and running into barriers which we can use to adjust our learning plans. In this course, you will explore remote assessment, address concerns and determine the best approaches to support students.

Description: Assessment is a critical part of any learning environment. Assessment provides us with data into how and what our students are learning. In this course, you can expect to learn about online assessment features and troubleshooting challenges with online assessment. *This is an extension to Remote Assessment Part 1.

Coding in the Classroom

Length: 8 Days

Description: Coding is not just a fad. It is one of the fastest-growing skills needed in the world today and a basic understanding of it is needed for many jobs. Coding also helps practice 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and analytical thinking. In this course, you can expect to learn about multiple coding resources, including both physical and digital, that can be used in your classroom.

Description: Participants will learn about a variety of technology tools that can be used for middle and high school students. Participants will be introduced to a handful of tools so they can determine which are best for their classroom and how to use those tools.

Becoming a Human Firewall Part 1

Virtual and Augmented Reality

Google Classroom for Face-to-Face & Blended Learning

Description: Learning management systems (LMS) exist in just about every classroom in one capacity or another. An LMS provides us with the ability to facilitate blended, online, project-based, and hybrid learning styles. Google Classroom is one of the most widely used LMS and for good reason. It is both easy to use and convenient for any school district using Workspace for Education. This course will Google Classroom to model, teach, and share resources for implementing LMS in a face-to-face and blended learning environment.
