• Irvington Preparatory academy

During my time at Irvington Preparatory Academy, a public-charter high school on the east side of Indianapolis, I volunteered as a tutor for students taking a dual credit section of ENG-W 131. I pushed into to each class session and worked with students 1:1 to assist them in starting, improving, and polishing their writing projects. I thoroughly enjoy working with students and this was a very rewarding opportunity for me to get my foot in the door in education! 

• Indiana University - Indianapolis

At IUI, I had the opportunity to become an honors college peer mentor for the incoming honors students during the fall semester of my sophomore year. This was another wonderful opportunity for me to guide and support my peers and help them to ensure they were taking all of the right steps to establish themselves in the honors college. As an honors peer mentor, I mentored two (2) first year freshmen for the duration of the first semester. I met with each of them once per month and during our meetings we talked through their goals for their first year and how they were progressing toward their goals, making adjustments to them when needed.

• South Creek Elementary School

Another education and school based volunteer opportunity I had during my time here at IUI was at South Creek Elementary School where I was able to assist with their Spring Fling event. At this event, I assisted with setting up all of the different games and activities for the students. I also helped with facilitating the games and tear down of the event as well. This was another very rewarding opportunity for me to get to see the joy coming from the students as they participated in this fun school event!
