What is the MCA/Alt MCA?
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) and alternate assessment, Alt MCA, are the statewide tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota's academic standards and meet the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Students take one test in each subject. Most students take the MCA, but students who receive special education services and meet eligibility criteria may take the Alt MCA.
Is the MCA/Alt MCA a required test?
Yes, all students in grades 3-8, 10 and 11 are required by state law to take the test.
What subjects will be tested?
Reading – Grades 3–8 and 10
Math – Grades 3–8 and 11
Science – Grades 5, 8, and 10
