Future Ready (Career and College Readiness) means a high school graduate has the knowledge, skills, and competencies to successfully pursue a career pathway, including postsecondary credit leading to a degree, diploma, certificate, or industry-recognized credential and employment. (MDE)

PEM HS is dedicated to helping students prepare for their future by building a personal learning plan (meeting the MN State Statue 120B.125). Beginning in eighth grade students set up an account in MN Career Information System to help guide them through self assessment, explore career options, and set future goals. This is a collaborative effort from the classroom, advisory program, and high school counseling office. We are supportive of all options beyond high school including enrolling in the workforce or apprenticeship program, enlisting in the military, or enrolling in college.
PEM HS students have the opportunity to be awarded a Future Ready Certificate in addition to their diploma. Students may meet criteria for Career Readiness, College Readiness, or Career & College Readiness to receive a Future Ready Certificate. Here are the criteria:
All PEM students identify the Career Field that best aligns with their career interests. This is flexible and can change as interests change.
Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
Arts, Communication & Information Systems
Engineering, Manufacturing & Technology
Health Science Technology
Human Services
Business, Management & Administration
Students are Career Ready if they meet two or more of the following indicators:
90% Attendance Rate in Freshman Year.
25+ hours of Community Service (Grades 9-12)
Workplace Learning Experience (job, job shadow)
Industry Credential/Certification (CNA, EMR, etc)
Dual Credit Pathway Course (Welding, Truck Driving, etc)
Participate in 2+ Co-curricular Activities (Grades 9-12)
Students are College Ready if the meet either the academic indicators OR standardized testing benchmarks:
Academic Indicators: 2.8+ Cumulative GPA and one more of the following indicators:
Complete Algebra II with a C or better
Complete 1 or more college credit classes with a C or better (Concurrent, CLEP, PSEO)
Standardized Testing Benchmarks
ACT: English: 18, Reading: 22, Science: 23, Math: 22 OR
MCA’s (Reading @ 1047+, Math @ 1158+)
