ACT

What is the ACT?  The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, Math, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing test.

ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the US.

The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT with writing). Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (plus 40 minutes if you are taking the ACT with writing).

ACT requirement is dependent upon the college/university; most colleges are test optional for students planning on attending a four-year college directly after high school.  The ACT is NOT required to enter the workforce, military, vocational, or two year college. Students entering the military will take the ASVAB with their military recruiter.  Students pursuing a vocational or two year college will need to take the required placement test for the designated college.  The ACCUPLACER and COMPASS are common placement tests for two year colleges.  The ACT may waive a placement test if a student meets the following college readiness testing scores: English ACT score of 18, Reading ACT score of 21, and Math ACT Score of 22.
