Among the opportunities provided in the military are the following:
Active duty enlisted programs –These programs generally a contractual commitment for a period of time ranging from two to six years. Benefits include full-time pay, free housing, medical insurance, paid leave and educational assistance through the Post 9/11 GI Bill and tuition assistance programs. United States Military Service Academies: Admissions to military service academies are highly competitive. For most of the academies, a Congressional nomination is required in addition to other admission criteria. You are advised to begin the application process in your junior year in order to meet some of the deadlines.
Reserve duty enlisted programs (Reserve and National Guard) – Upon completion of training service members in the Reserve and Guard Forces serve one weekend per month and two weeks a year while they attend college.

Active Duty and Reserve Officer Programs – For students who have never been in the armed forces before, there are two basic ways to gain a commission as an officer: Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs at select universities and colleges or admission to one of the military service academies. The following links will provide further information on applying for these competitive leadership opportunities:
Reserve Officer Training Corps Opportunities: ROTC is offered as elective classes in Military Science in addition to regular college courses that include classes taken for your major. ROTC programs are offered on both a scholarship and non-scholarship basis. Not all universities and colleges offer ROTC programs, so check college websites for more details.
