2nd Meeting of the Lisbon Urban Data Laboratory (LxDataLab)
CML Social Services Auditorium
May 29, 2024
This is an initiative of the Lisbon Center for Urban Management and Intelligence (CGIUL), a department of the Lisbon Municipal Council (CML) that promotes Smart City initiatives within the framework of collaboration protocols celebrated with 19 universities and higher education and scientific research institutions that have seized the opportunity to respond to concrete city challenges using real data. At the same time, CML has the chance to test analytical solutions capable of promoting innovation, efficiency, and proactivity in the services provided to citizens.
In this meeting, besides the presentation of the analytical work carried out by the City Council's internal teams in areas such as mobility, environment, economy and governance, 17 projects were presented by the partner universities (7 from Iscte-IUL, 3 from ISEC, 2 from FCUL and NOVA SBE, and 1 from ULusofona, ISEL and ISA) in response to the LxDataLab challenges. For Councillor Joana Almeida, in charge of the Municipality's Smart City Department, "collaboration with academia is very important if we want to obtain a reliable picture of the capital, resulting from data analysis, and find solutions for effective and intelligent management that meets the needs of citizens".
Two presentations were based on the work developed by the RESETTING@Iscte team: "Visual analysis of crowding in Lisbon during the World Youth Day based on mobile network data", presented by Duarte Almeida, and "Platform for visualizing spatiotemporal tourism crowding", by Rodrigo Simões.
