Welcome to our Reading Leadership group. We are on a mission to achieve Reading Schools accreditation and in our first meeting we created an action plan for the year to ensure our school.
The Reading Schools programme, led by the Scottish Book Trust, is designed to build a whole-school culture that promotes reading for pleasure and supports literacy across learning. Achieving Core accreditation shows a school’s strong commitment to developing positive attitudes to reading and embedding it in daily school life. At our school, the Pupil Reading Leaders group will play a key role in this by helping to choose and promote books, leading activities such as peer reading and competitions, and encouraging their classmates to develop a lifelong love of reading.
Meeting 1 (new group) - 14/1/26
Today we welcomed a new Reading Group. The children all swapped around groups and although some children wanted to stay in the Reading Leader's group lots of new children wanted to join. We spent some time looking through the books in the library and deciding where everything should go.
During our fourth meeting we unpacked the new books we have recently purchased for the library. The children had a say in the types of books and the authors they would enjoy reading.
Meeting 3 - 5/11/25
During our third meeting we discussed the library. Mrs Morrison is in the middle of sorting the current books that we have and ordering new furniture. We thought it would be a nice idea to create some posters that can be used to decorate our library when it is ready. These are a work in progress but here is a glimpse of some of the fantastic slogans the children created.
At our second meeting we filmed a fundraising video with the hope of raising some funds for some new library books. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, humour, acting skills and enthusiasm for the cause! It was lovely to see all children participating!
At our first meeting we met to create our action plan for the year that we hope will allow us to gain our core accreditation. We always looked around the room that we will be using for our library. At the moment it is a big empty space but hopefully we can change this soon!
