Mainstream Additional Support Needs (ASN):
An additional support need takes many forms and can be permanent or temporary. Examples of when a pupil may need to access the ASN team include: difficulties accessing the academic curriculum; having English as an additional language; bereavement and loss; having a physical disability; injury or post-surgical recovery; having a neurodiverse condition such as ASD, ADHD, dyslexia or DLD.
The ASN team can support young people and their families to access specialist support and agencies, make referrals and requests for services, ensure that children have the appropriate support plans in place (e.g. Individualised Educational Plans, Child Plans, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans etc.) and work directly with children who may need time out of the classroom environment. The ASN team also work directly with class teachers who will know your children better than anyone.
Support in School:
Within the mainstream school we strive to support our young people in as many ways as we can. Here are some examples of the types of programmes we currently deliver and facilitate:
Nurture Groups
Social Communication Groups
Seasons for Growth
Active Sports Group
Art Therapy (external agency)
Resilience Sessions (delivered by Mikey's Line as part of a transitions programme for senior pupils only)
