Ready to start out journey to Tallin.
Good morning, Estonia, there we goooo!!
After a long journey, we eventually arrived at 1:15 PM.
There was nobody at the airport, as you can imagine, but we found our kind taxi driver waiting for us outside. 😉
On Sunday 9th (our day 2 of the trip, first one in Tallinn) we go sightseeing around the old quarter of the city. We have experienced Tallinn at its best, with wondeful weather and the awesome audioguide in Spanish that Nataljia has provided us with. We have walked along the Medieval walls, visited some of the most important churches and squares.
At the end of the day, we are lucky to be able to enjoy a delicious dinner with live music just next to the hotel. A wonderful kick-off day!!
This is our first school day in Tallin. Haabersti Vene Gümnaasium is quite a big school, with around 900 students from Primary to Upper Secondary. Monday the 10th, we are picked up at our hotel by the kindest KA1 project coordinator in the world, together with our Beatriz, of course. We take a taxi to go to the school, which is very convenient indeed.
Already at school, we meet Irina and Marina, Principal and Deputy Head-teacher. Nastia, one of the students in Year 10 helps us with the Rusian and Estonian languages. After the meeting, we start observing English 12A preparation to get the B2 certificate. We learn about the general content of the exam and specifically on the speaking tasks. Next period, you move to 12B, where they are working on the other skills of the exam: reading, writing and listening.
At 13:00 we have lunch at the school canteen, and after lunch we enter Robotics with small kids, year 2B. Alona is doing a great job promoting hands-on practise. The students build during the lesson small cars that actually work! And we eventually finish our first afternoon in Haabersti Vene Gümnaasium talking with Alona about possible projects between our schools.
In the evening, Irina, Marina and Natalja accompany us for a delicious meal. We are exhausted but filled with new information and delighful experiences.
In our second day we were in year 3 first in their music class in Russian and in their language class in Estonian afterwards. In the music class, Teresa explaned the origin, history and types of castañuelas. At the end of the lesson we all sang a very nice song!
After lunch we visited the technological university and we participated in a experiment based on water and pipes to end our afternoon visiting Kiek in de Kök fortificationmuseum.
Today it was pouring!! Luckily we were collected from the hotel by the Head of Studies :)
Once in the high school, we joined a crafts lesson conducted in Russian where we learnt how to make traditional Estonian jewels.
Then, we were in an English class with a very small group of special needs students. The methodology was focused on basic everyday vocabulary and oral skills.
After that, we went to the library and we learnt of a project called ´The reading dog project` which is being developped to reinforce reading skills of learners who may be having problems at reading.
There is a lady who volunteers to read a graded book in the library once a week. What makes this activicty different is that she takes her dog with her and the small group of kids can gently stroke the dog.
After lunch, we had a great time dancing and strolling along some nice spots from the Tallin coast. Finally, We had dinner with Marta , Victoria and one of Maria´s Estonian friends.
