Dear Parents
Volunteering
One of the joys of working at ICS is the close relationships we have with our parents. We see parents at events such as last Friday’s back to School Night and during Parent Teacher Conferences. We also say hello or chat at the door. However, we really get to know you and your gifts and talents when you come and volunteer in school.
At Back to School Night your teacher asked for various volunteers for:
Special Events – Christmas party, End of Year parties, R2 Thanksgiving and later the Chinese Language teacher will ask for volunteers for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
By Invitation – Parents coming in to share about their jobs.
As a Chaperone – Mini-outings e.g. to supermarket or the shopping mall in R2, or trips to the outside playground.
Regular Volunteers - to help prepare Classroom Materials on Wednesdays. We also asked for volunteers on Thursdays or Fridays to help check in or check out library books.
Our Parent Association Reps Brian, Jeffrey and Jess may also ask for volunteers to help decorate the 2 bulletin boards in the entrance area or to decorate the campus for Christmas or Chinese New Year.
Our regular volunteers are very important to us. We greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication of these parents (both Dads as well as Moms) who share their time to serve us in school. As Kindergarten does not have a librarian, the checking in and out of the weekly library book packs your child brings home would not be possible without you. Each Thursday and Friday our volunteer parents are busy checking in and out sets of books for each child - that’s 7 items for each R1 child and 8 items for each R2s. When we and parents see the children’s faces when they receive their books on a Friday, it makes all the hard work worthwhile. If you volunteer on a Friday, you also get to join in Chapel (once we have parents joining us) and you will also help in the library time.
If you are available on a Thursday or a Friday, we would really value your help. Training will be provided, and our experienced volunteers will help and support you each week. Through volunteering, we see friendships forming and we gain ideas in making the processes run more smoothly.
If you are interested in becoming a regular volunteer, please complete the online Volunteer application and sign the Confidentiality agreement and read the volunteer handbook.. This is valid for the two years, so if you are an R2 and you applied to be a volunteer during R1, they you do not need to apply again.
Please note for Kindergarten
Tier 1 – for regular volunteers in school for library and material preparation.
Tier 2 – for chaperones on R2 mini-field trips or helping at the outside playground or other trips outside. Tier 2 parents supervise children with ICS staff nearby, during outings you would always travel together with ICS staff.
If you apply for Tier 2, please click on the additional link to watch the child safeguarding videos and complete the quizzes. You need to get 10/10 to qualify to be a Tier 2 volunteer, but you may complete the quiz as many times as you need.
After you have applied, the KG Office will email you to inform you that your application is successful for kindergarten.
Training in how to use the library computer system and how to allocate books to the students will be given on Thursday September 17.
Your child will be excited to see Mom or Dad in school and it sets a great example of how to serve others by being helpful and generous in sharing your time.
We look forward to working together with you and to getting to know you better.
Blessings
Gillian Wu
Kindergarten Assistant Principal

If a different adult is coming to pick up your child from school, please notify the Kindergarten Office giving us their full name, Hong Kong Identity card number and their telephone number.
All people coming to pick up your child must:
Be on the authorized list on PowerSchool i.e. a parent has given us permission to release their child to that person.
Bring the purple pick-up card (original card, photographs will not be accepted).
In absence of the pick-up card, for persons we do not recognize we will either - check their Hong Kong Identity Card or call the phone number you have given us.
If we are unsure of the identity of the person picking up your child, we will check their identity.
If the person is not listed on PowerSchool, and you have not informed us, we will call parents to confirm.
If your child usually takes the bus home and changes to being picked up from school, please notify us. Please ensure that the person coming to school is on our authorized list. If in doubt, please give us their name
If you change or employ a new Domestic Helper, please remove your previous helper or add a new helper to the pick-up contacts on PowerSchool.
Parents, be empowered and equipped with the knowledge and resources you need to support your child's growth and success. This page provides resources, and we hope to help parents navigate the challenges of parenting and support your child's overall well-being. Make sure to check out our parent page HERE!
If your child is sick, please keep your child at home to rest and recover and notify the school by completing the relevant e-collect form on PowerSchool of:
Your child’s absence / number of days your child is likely to be off school
Your child’s body temperature (please state actual temperature, not just “has a fever”)
Once recovering from a fever (38C or above), please let us know the day and time your child’s fever subsided without medication. If you do not specify a time, we will use the time from your email. We can then specify how soon your child may return to school (48 hours after fever subsided).
Your child’s symptoms (not just “unwell”).
If your child has Chickenpox, Hand Foot and Mouth or other notifiable disease - please send in a doctor’s note confirming diagnosis. We also require a doctor’s note stating that your child is fit to return to school.
Red Eyes—conjunctivitis can be very infectious. If your child has red eyes, please give us a doctor’s note stating that your child is not infectious before they can come to school.
Department of Health requirements state that if a child has a fever (38C or above), or repeated diarrhea they need to stay home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided (without medication).
Even though your child’s fever may have gone, a child may still have a runny nose or bad cough and are not fit to return to school. Please keep them at home to rest.
Please do not send your child to school if they are still taking medication following an illness. The medicine may make your child sleepy and they still need time to recover and rest at home.
If your child has recovered but still has a mild cough (not chesty or coughing up phlegm), they may return to school but should wear a face mask.
