Dear ICS Community,
Welcome back! It is an especial joy to be welcoming new members of our ICS community, whether they are students, parents, faculty or staff.
As teachers and support staff gathered after the summer break, we considered our purpose at this wonderful school, which is to point boys and girls to the Lord Jesus Christ, and encourage them to know him and imitate him. Philippians 2 helped remind us of that, and hopefully some of my 7th Grade Bible class from last year still remember their memory verses from that chapter: “...being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross!” Because of Jesus’ obedience, the penalty for our guilt that we could not bear was paid for, and by faith in him we are set free from sin and death.
How should we respond to such a rich and precious gift, freely given, and to the “name that is above all names”? We are encouraged to show obedience ourselves, in imitating Jesus’ humility. What does that look like? Verses 3 and 4 say this: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Sacrificial love is the mark of true discipleship, and so as a senior leadership team we have settled on those verses as our chosen Scripture for the 2026-2027 academic year. I pray that they will also encourage all of us not to love the world and the way of the world, but to set our hearts on the King of Kings as the rock of our salvation.
As we work out our salvation together this year, we can trust that it is God who works in us to fulfil his purposes for us, so let us be “like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind”.
Yours in Him
