The Solvatten project is sponsored by the Swedish social enterprise Solvatten who provides areas in need with containers that are used to purify water, raw water, so as to make it safe for consumption. In the counties of Tharaka Nithi, Tana River and Wajir, communities draw water directly from rivers, shallow wells, earth dams and streams that is not safe for drinking. This has led to a lot of cases of water-related illnesses and outbreaks of cholera. The containers come in handy as they ensure households with safe drinking water. The Solvatten container uses UV sun rays to heat the water and carries a capacity of 10 liters.
