Ian Eagleton - author of Glitter Boy
At Hylands Primary, we believe that meeting real authors is a fantastic way to inspire a love of reading! Thanks to technology, we can enjoy virtual author events throughout the year, bringing exciting stories to life for our pupils. We have also been very lucky to welcome some well-known children's authors to our school in person. They share what it's like to be a writer, where they find their ideas, and how they create their wonderful books!
Elle McNicoll - author of A Kind of Spark
Ian Eagleton
We were very lucky to receive a visit from local author Ian Eagleton in November who gave a fantastic presentation to Y4, Y5 & Y6 about his inspiration for writing his books and the writing process. The children in Y6 already had his book 'Glitter Boy' in their book corners and then we added his new title 'The boy who cried ghost' to our school collection. Lots of children bought their own copies as well and got the opportunity to meet Ian and get their books signed.
Elle McNicoll
In April we were beyond excited to welcome Elle McNicoll to Hylands Primary. The children in Y6 had read her debut novel 'A Kind of Spark' and were then thrilled to have Elle herself introduce the prequel novel 'Keedie'. Elle spent time signing lots of copies of her book for the children and also officially opened our new sensory rooms in school.
KATHERINE RUNDELL
In the Autumn Term, the children in KS2 linked up live with Katherine Rundell as she introduced her new fantasy book 'Impossible Creatures'. The children were enthralled by her personal story of how she became a writer and her message of never giving up on your dream - a perfect illustration of one of our school core values: determination! Lots of children ordered signed copies of her book and there were waiting lists for the class copies!
