At Hylands Primary school, we believe that computing is an essential part of every child’s education, helping them to develop valuable skills for the future. Our computing curriculum is designed to support children in three key areas: computer science, information technology, and digital literacy, with a strong emphasis on online safety.
Children will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles behind how computers work. Through activities such as coding and programming, students will learn to think logically and solve problems creatively. The use of programmable devices such as Micro:bits and Crumble Controllers gives children valuable hands-on experiences, allowing them to apply coding concepts in real-world projects and explore the exciting possibilities of technology.
In our information technology lessons, children learn essential skills to understand and use technology effectively. They use various devices to create media, collect, manage and organise data and information and make connections between systems and networks.
Digital Literacy
Digital literacy is crucial in today’s digital world, and our curriculum ensures that children are not only able to use technology but also understand how to do so responsibly. We emphasise the importance of using the internet safely and respectfully, with lessons that cover a wide range of topics. In addition, our school participates in Safer Internet Day, an important event where children learn about the risks of the online world and how to protect themselves from potential dangers. Our Digital Leaders play a key role in supporting both parents and children by offering guidance on E-safety, helping to ensure everyone in our school community understands how to stay safe and responsible online.
