At Hylands, we believe that all pupils have the right to an education that is tailored to meet their individual needs. Our provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is rooted in a commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We adopt the WAVE 1-3 model to provide a structured and graduated approach to support:
Wave 1: High-quality, inclusive teaching is at the core of our provision. Lessons are carefully planned to ensure differentiation, enabling all pupils, including those with SEND, to access the curriculum alongside their peers.
Wave 2: For pupils who require additional support, we provide targeted interventions in small groups. These interventions focus on specific areas of need, such as literacy, numeracy, or social skills, and are regularly reviewed to assess progress.
Wave 3: Pupils with more complex needs receive personalised, one-to-one support and tailored programmes, ensuring their individual learning and development goals are met effectively.
We also embed the Zones of Regulation framework into our approach to support pupils’ emotional regulation and wellbeing. This framework helps children develop self-awareness and provides them with strategies to manage their emotions and behaviours effectively, promoting readiness to learn.
Our dedicated Inclusion Lead works closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure that provision is continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our pupils. They are available to discuss any concerns or queries regarding SEND support and can be contacted via the School Office to arrange an appointment.
