The Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Code came into force in 2022.
The Lead for both RVE and RSE across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Swansea is Jennifer Harding-Richards: jennifer.harding-richards@swansea.gov.uk
There is no parental right to withdraw children from RSE lessons and learning experiences. High quality RSE is considered a right for all children.
As with all aspects of the curriculum, schools are expected to engage with families about the curriculum as it is designed, implemented and reviewed. Families should be reassured to know that schools in Wales will design and implement a curriculum that meets the developmental needs of their learners, rather than any age-related expectations they may see in documentation from other countries.
Monkton Priory CP School has worked with an organisation contracted by WG to engage with communities who may find supporting the RSE Code difficult, and continues to work with WG on this area. If your school faces challenges from families and you would like to discuss these, please contact Jennifer or Sian on RowlesS5@hwbcymru.net, or Dylan Lawrence, Headteacher at Monkton.
