A central theme in the Curriculum Review has been the need to be clear about the overall purposes that the curriculum is seeking to serve. That principle should apply equally to the selection of teaching and learning approaches. While it is difficult to maintain such a long-term focus on a day-to-day basis, it is important that the balance of experiences offered to children and young people is regularly reviewed in relation to the curriculum purposes.
The four curriculum purposes proposed by the Review will inevitably require a wide repertoire of teaching and learning approaches. By embedding the Cross-curriculum Responsibilities and wider skills in each Area of Learning and Experience the new structure gives clear signals about related teaching approaches. The intention is to release the creativity and energy of teachers to provide rich learning for children and young people. Successful Futures, 2015 (p64)

All schools developed shared learning experiences, such as visits to Dr Beynon's Bug Farm and literary and creative arts inspired by The Lost Words. Each school engaged in social action related to their chosen goal, for example Fenton School's video was shared internationally by Water Aid.
