To support the development of increasingly effective learners, we are trialling a resource for years 5-8 called Leading My Learning. This draws on some of the resources we use as part of the Peer Tutor training, across 5 strands that form a spiral curriculum. These strands begin with understanding how our brains learn, how we can learn to self-regulate, how we can develop positive relationships with others and work well in teams, in order to work together to take part in social action within school, local area, nationally or globally. They are supplemented by bitesize recording by James Mannion describing aspects of three elements of becoming a self-regulated learner (metacognition, self-regulation and oracy). Sample resources are below - the full resources are here:
The profile of an effective learner below synthesises all references to what an effective learner might be in Curriculum for Wales, ie as described in the four purposes, the progression code and integral skills etc.
Pilot schools co-constructed the profile and are using self-and teacher assessment tools to identify how frequently the 12 behaviours are demonstrated by learners to understand which knowledge, skills and experiences need to be planned for and practised in order to further develop these behaviours as consistent habits.
Ysgol Harri Tudur organised a Rethinking Learner Effectiveness conference on Mon 26.6.23 and welcomed colleagues from across Pembrokeshire to share in the keynotes, presentations and discussions. The schedule with prompts for table discussions throughout the day is below, and recordings kindly taken and edited by John Ewart from Planed have been added to this page Leading My Learning & Peer Tutoring (Pembrokeshire) (google.com) . You are welcome to use any or all within schools/clusters to support discussions and planning to develop increasingly effective learners.
