Pont Fach Assessment Centre
Located on the same site as Maendy Primary School, Cwmbran, Pont Fach Assessment Centre is a local authority provision in Torfaen which offers short term placements for highly complex pupils of primary school age who have social, emotional and behavioural needs which have a significant impact on their learning.
Pont Fach provides a nurturing environment for all who attend on a secure site enabling pupils to feel safe, special and have their needs met.
Many pupils who attend Pont Fach have experienced significant trauma in their lives which has negatively impacted on their ability to access mainstream schooling on a full time basis. Many may have unmet and / or undiagnosed additional learning needs, have been subject to fixed term exclusions and as a result may have their curriculum and days modified in school to meet these needs. For some pupils they are also at risk of permanent exclusion from their mainstream school.
Our main aim at Pont Fach is for pupils to be able to return to mainstream schooling on a full time basis by developing positive relationships in order to fully understand unmet needs and provide strategies and support for pupils and staff so that they can access mainstream school full time.
We provide support for schools, home and those working closely with pupils who attend Pont Fach in order to strengthen the team around the child. We liaise with Outside Agencies who may already be involved with the pupil to further understand what’s happening in their lives and why mainstream school isn’t working for the pupil at this time.
