My name is Mr Johnson and I am super excited to be teaching Year 5 this year. Alongside me will be Miss Ashton. We have lots of exciting topics this year, which we think the children are going to love!
A few reminders:
P.E. is on a Monday,
and all homework, including home reading books,
are to be returned on a Wednesday.
I know we will all have a fantastic year together and I look forward to meeting everyone.
If you have any queries or questions, please feel free contact Miss Ashton or Myself via a dojo message.

Peek into the Past
This term, Year 5 are exploring the powerful stories and events of World War II. Through historical sources, storytelling, and creative writing, pupils are learning about evacuation, rationing, and the resilience of Welsh communities during wartime Britain. They’ve been writing newspaper reports, decoding messages, and reflecting on the emotions of children living through conflict.
To bring history to life, Year 5 visited the Imperial War Museum in London, where they explored real artefacts and interactive exhibits. They also took in the sights from the London Eye, linking their learning to the geography and landmarks of the city.
Earth Explorers
This term our topic is ‘Earth Explorers’, where we will be exploring the concept of structure and function.
This term, children will be exploring rhythm and beat by creating their own junk instruments, experimenting with sound, and using key musical vocabulary. In science, they’ll investigate States of Matter through a polar ice caps experiment, observing changes and linking melting ice to real‑world climate change. In RE, they’ll learn about different Christian denominations and the idea of stewardship, asking thoughtful questions and making connections between faith, values, and caring for our world. We will also be celebrating our annual Eisteddfod and learning all about the history and culture of Wales
Year 5 recorded a brilliant podcast this week, debating the pros and cons of renewable energy. They shared clear ideas, challenged each other’s thinking, and showed how confidently they can discuss big issues in a fun, engaging way.
May The Force Be With You.
