Take a look at what we are getting up to in our inquiries below...
Spring Term Inquiry 2026
This inquiry will encourage exploration of the local area and what makes Ferndale a special place to live. Learners will start off by investigating how Winter has changed Darran Park. We will then zoom out wider and think about what the pupils know about Ferndale? What do they have in the community/places to visit? Where are their special places/where do they belong? Learners will create simple maps of their locality and compare photographs of Ferndale from now and the past. The inquiry will move on to talk about places the pupils have visited (holidays) how did they get there? What transport did they use? Learners will make simple comparisons between Ferndale and other places they have visited (in real life or digitally!) What might be the same? What might be different? Learners will end the inquiry by taking action and considering ways in which we can help our community.
Autumn Term Inquiry 2025
Our current inquiry is called 'What Changes Happen in Autumn?'. We will be learning all about the seasons of the year and the changes that Autumn in particular brings- we will be carrying out our research and investigation by visiting the park every week! The children have already come up with lots of 'I wonder...' questions to create lines of inquiry for our class, some of which involve learning about the animals that live in the park, the life cycles of plants/trees and the weather. We also hope to look at the jobs that Autumn brings too, including the role of farmers harvesting the food we eat.
