Summer Term Inquiry- Expressive Arts
Alchemy Island - Can fantasy become a reality?
This half term, a mysterious visitor will arrive to present us with artefacts from the island. Reading stories set in fantasy worlds will inspire our story openings. We’ll manipulate digital photographs, adding fantastical special effects. Our geography skills will improve as we look closely at maps of Alchemy Island, plotting routes and using coordinates. We’ll examine samples from the island, explore the properties of materials and experiment with changes of state. We have used our DCF skills to create animations using Adobe Express linked to our fantasy stories. Then, transferring them to GIF file. We have used stop-frame animation, taking many photos to create a moving image. Consisting of, our fantasy backgrounds and character to develop a fantasy story. The final project, was composing our music to add to our animation to tell the story through our music composition.
We created our fantasy story through the use of Music to show suspense and tension. We had Stick 2 music to help us create the final music piece.
We used Adobe express to develop our fantasy story backgrounds and chose a character to place in the fantasy story. We used Stop-Frame animation and iMovie to place the music with the animation. Here is an example of pupils final project with Animation and Music Composition.
Here is a pupil's example of the written fantasy story. This story is align with the Animation and Music Composition. This was one of the learning steps in the process of the inquiry.

Spring term Inquiry- Humanities
Roses and Royals - What does the monarchy do for us?
For our inquiry, children will develop an understanding of the monarchy and learn about the life and role of our current monarch, King Charles III. Pupils will establish an understanding of the monarchy and its association with Wales, as well as our local area of Ferndale. Also, we will be looking back to Tudor times to compare the role of a monarch and its impact on Wales. The students shall be visiting Carew Castle in Pembrokeshire, experiencing how people lived during Tudor times by participating in a range of activities; they will gain first-hand experience in masonry, weaving, tile making, calligraphy and kitchen work. Back in the classroom, they’ll find out more about Tudor life. They’ll study the Tudor family tree and find out about Henry VII, the first Tudor king, who fought for the crown against Richard III. They’ll also learn about the lives of the sons of Henry VII, Arthur and Henry VIII, who was famous for his love of food, fighting and, of course, wives.

Build a Space lander to survive a landing on the lunar landscape and work scientifically to investigate gravity, and what happens when there is none.
