Summer term 2025 - Expressive arts
How do we make our mark?
This inquiry will explore opportunities for creativity and expression, through the stimulus of seas and oceans (for the first half term) and exploring minibeasts (second half term). Children will investigate art and Welsh artists connected to the coast and look at how they create their own representations. The sea will influence our work in drama, dance and digital media and we will also listen to music inspired by the sea and create our own compositions. Sarah Evans artist from Aberdare, Graham Brace (Pembrokeshire) and Andy Goldsworthy to create pieces using the natural materials found in our park. The children will consider the ways in which they make their mark (creatively) and how they make their mark in the local area by helping to look after our park.
We introduced our inquiry by holding a creative play workshop. In this session the children will have the freedom to explore all the expressive arts disciplines and experiment with 'making their mark' in any way they choose.
We created some large scale art work based on the story 'Someone swallowed Stanley.'
We created our own kites
We experimented with different musical instruments!
The pupils worked in groups and studied different artists in Wales. They chose a piece of artwork to recreate.
We invited our parents to an expressive arts workshop to show them some of the activities we had completed during our inquiry. Parents had the opportunity to walk through our art gallery to see our creations.
Spring term 2025 - Humanities
Where do we belong? Where can we go?
This inquiry will encourage exploration and curiosity about the local area of Ferndale. What do the pupils know about Ferndale, what do we have in the community? Places to visit. What features does Ferndale have? The inquiry will move on to talk about places the pupils have visited (holidays) how did they get there? What transport did they use? Compare holidays pupils have now with holidays from the past involvement from families (Interviewing). What might be the same? What might be different? Pupils will also look at the different ways we can look after our local area.
Louby Lou started off our inquiry by taking us on an adventure through movement and drama! We learnt about different birds and what happens through each season.
Autumn term 24 - Science and technology
What changes happens in Autumn time?
This inquiry explores the seasonal changes from summer into autumn and through to winter. We will focus on colour changing of the leaves, what happens to the trees in the park. We will also find out about animals that live wild in the park and their habitats. What do these animals need to survive? Are there any ways we can help the environment or to help look after the animals that live in the park? We will investigate the job of a park keeper.
