The Four Purposes
The four purposes are at the heart of Curriculum for Wales. They represent our aspirations and ambitions for all learners in Wales, enabling them to become:
ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Key Principles:
The four purposes are the driver for change at all levels in our school, providing the integral vision for our curriculum design and development.
All members of the school community should have a shared understanding of why and how the four purposes underpin all learning activities in the school.
The four purposes require a holistic approach to learning and therefore encourage co-operation, collaboration and sharing of experiences and practice.
Key considerations:
How are the four purposes reflected in our school vision?
What opportunities have been provided for our staff, learners and wider community to engage with the four purposes in order to understand their implications for learning in our school?
How do our staff use the four purposes as a starting point when planning for learning and progression?
To what extent do we understand the characteristics of the four purposes?
To what extent are we familiar with the skills integral to the four purposes?
