Collaboration

Collaboration involves connecting with other people to exchange ideas, experiences and practices that facilitate improved learning. Collaboration leads to a genuine sense of shared responsibility for the development of the learners within the context of the four purposes.

Key Principles

  • Collaboration provides opportunities for professional learning and should be actively promoted within school, with the wider school community and beyond.

  • The school team works together to embrace change, share resources and support each other whilst building a curriculum that meets all learners’ needs and is authentic to the local, national and international contexts.

  • Effective collaboration enables the school to take a multi-disciplinary approach to learning. Departments and disciplines collaborate to establish deep connections in the learning.

  • Collaboration is one of our key pedagogical principles in the classroom which enables learners to understand and value difference and diversity.

  • Involving learners in decision making about their learning ensures that our curriculum is learner-focussed. This takes a wide variety of forms and involves pupils taking greater responsibility as they move through our school.

  • Working with other settings, schools and further education institutions provides important opportunities to share learning and develop joined-up experiences for learners.

Key considerations:

  1. How do we plan for and create situations for all members of our school team to collaborate with others?

  2. To what extent are we allocating time for our staff to collaborate as part of their ongoing professional development?

  3. How do we strengthen collaborative activities so that we develop a shared responsibility for the progress of all learners?

  4. How are we using collaborative approaches to provide a holistic curriculum which deepens learning and enables transference?

  5. What strategies are we using to prepare learners to take increasing ownership of their own progress?
