Used with a form of sum/esse and usually involves a person or living creature in order to show ownership
Translated literally as “to/for ____ (someone)” or figuratively as “_____(someone) has something”
Examples:
Sunt mihi bis septem.. Nymphae. (There are fourteen nymphs to me --> I have fourteen nymphs)
Est mihi domī pater. (There is a father to me at home --> I have a father at home)
Est mihi telum. (There is a spear to me --> I have a spear)
