Used in comparisons of two or more things (I watched more closely)
No prepositions
Examples: paulo post discedit
tanto pessimus omnium poeta
Translations: he leaves a little after
As much as he is the worst poet of all
These can be more literally translated as “By a little he leaves after” or “By so much he is the worst poet of all”
By saying “by a little” it is specifying the degree (It’s saying he left “a little after”, not “a long time after”)
