National Adoption Artwork
This year the Hubbard High School Art Department had the honor and privilege to be a part of National Adoption Day for the Warren City Courts. Last spring Mr. MacMillan was asked if the high school students would be willing to create the themed based artwork that was displayed on November 2nd at the Warren Courthouse in front of the judge’s bench and courts podium. The theme of the artwork was generated by the probate court, “The adoption took time, The love arrived instantly” and using superman and super girl in the artwork. After coming up with some ideas the idea was narrowed down to Superman and super girl Lego characters. We reached back to a couple years ago and recreated two 3D Lego characters, made a large 4x8 ft. mural on cardboard, and a small paper painting of super girl for the podium. As always we are blessed to have the support of the HHS administration with these project that let our students showcase their talents outside of our classroom walls. We are also fortunate to have the large sheets of cardboard used to make the characters and mural from Gasser Chair.
“I was able to attend the event which was one of the more incredibly humbling experiences I have had in teaching. To be in the courtroom on such a special day for these children and their families, to see our student’s artwork displayed at such an important moment, is beyond rewarding. As the events of the day went on, Judge Fredericka took a moment to acknowledge our school and students to everyone in attendance with humble gratitude and saying how impressed he was with the precise likeness the students were able to recreate the characters to celebrate the day. Afterwards, several members of the court, along with family members and other in attendance, continued to compliment the works our kids made. The students I get to teach everyday have always represented Hubbard, our schools, and our department well. Good Morning America even covered the story and the and when they showed the video clips on November 6, you saw their artwork and it was simply thrilling. I couldn’t be more proud of them of happier for where I am able to teach. ”-Josh MacMillan, HHS Art Teacher.
After the events the court house staff made arrangement for the pieces we created to be put on display during the holiday season at the Trumbull Art Gallery located at 158 N Park Ave in Warren. The pieces will be on display with a plaque with our student’s name, the school, and a brief description on why it was made.
