Art II, III, ad IV is geared to increase a student’s ability to think critically and independently. Here is a glimpse of a couple projects over the years to reference. The best part of ceramics and sculpture is it allows the kids to become more active in class and not stuck sitting and drawing.
Marcus L. "Wumbo"
Marcus worked on this for months and used almost 50 lbs of clay by the time the project was complete.
We didn't have the color we needed so I took a road trip after school to Ravenna for a jar of pink glaze....
worked like a charm. Such a fun piece.............I still have no idea what "Wumbo" is though?
Busts:
Once the pieces were built we allow them to sit for 3-4 weeks to completely dry to avoid any problems during the firing process. After they are fired in the kiln they are glazed in a the manner the students decide. Colors are usually applied with 2-3 layers and possibly a clear transparent coat if the students wants a matte glaze to have a gloss finish.
Facial Functional series:
Only requirement for their subject mater is it has to have a facial feature (fiction or non fiction character). Here are a couple examples.
Mallory G. "Russian Dolls"
