In 2014-2015, Dr Seuss invaded Hubbard, well not literally. Thanks to the cooperation and idea of our administration and elementary teachers. How it all started............ well let me tell you. It started last year when we finished up the minion project. The tribune had stopped by and did an article for us (thank you to Bob Copeland) on the minion phenomenon. Soon after I asked Mr Soloman (elementary principal at the time), "If you can think of anything that you would want us to gear it towards next year let us know and we can plan this year." His recommendation was Dr Seuss because they sponsor the Read Across America campaign. So we discussed the idea for the kids for the next year and they were already excited for the project.
This year, in conjunction with Mr. Marcello and Mrs. Carsone, we were able to bring a series of characters to life for all our elementary school students. Along with our efforts was Mrs. Toth (elementary art teacher), who opened her students up to art contest. "Whoever could come up with the best Dr Seuss themed project". Her students did artwork from the Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and The Grinch and the results were fantastic. We chose 3 BIG WINNERS who all received a certificate, markers, crayons, a basket full of crackers, candy, cheddar goldfish, and a crocheted hat made by Mrs Sandy Moss of Niles.
