WHY?????? Because nobody else seemed to do it,
So we decided to make the first proportional 5 ft tall paper mache FunkoPop art characters
Below is the 5 ft version of Jack Betts, our 82 year old sub and US Navy Veteran who blesses our halls everyday he can.
Anyone can make a superhero, movie characterize, or athlete. We use this project to make artists and one of the best people we know, "why ???" because we needed something practically perfect.
Here is what we have been up to for the past several weeks.
This project wouldn't have happened without the staff, students, and community bringing in the newspapers, old latex paint, and flour. All our cardboard and wood for the bodies came from Gasser chair, Thank you to everyone, this was definitely a LARGE task but we wanted to do something nobody has ever done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We started off by making the heads from intersection pieces of cardboard with hot glue and masking tape.
To make them as light as possible we used balloons for the majority of the mass and wrapped the heads in plastic wrap and stuffed the outside with newspaper to make them round.
What does a classroom of 4 ft wide heads look like......see for yourself.
Everyone BODY needs someBODY sometime......... that is what the kids call a bad dad joke.
Then we assembled them using this wood glue and a 1x4 coming out from the frame.
Once the glue is on it butts up against the cardboard inside the head and we added a screw with washers on each side to help keep it stable until it dries.
Next, attach the heads and bodies and start to build the bulk out of newspaper and masking tape.
Then came what every kids hates, well usually most..... paper mache.
Some people needed hair or accessories so they started to add it to the characters......
And the paper mache continued.....
Time to paint............
