root: holds a plant in place, takes up water and minerals from the soil to the rest of the plant
stem: holds up leaves and flowers, has tubes to carry water and food to the rest of the plant leaf; flat green part of a plant that contains chlorophyll and helps make food
flower: part of a plant that makes seeds and usually has brightly colored petals
fruit: part of certain plants that can be eaten
petal: brightly colored leaf of s flower
pistil: part of a flowet where the seed grows
stamen: part of a flower where pollen grows
pollen: yellowish powder found on the stamen of a flower
sepal: green petal-like structure that hangs just below the petals
embryo: tiny plant inside a seed
seed coat: tough skin that protects the seed
stored food: food inside the seed needed for the embryo to grow
monocot: flowering plant with one seed leaf
dicot: flowering plant with two seed leaves
germination: process by which a seed changes into a seedling
seedling: young plant
pollination: process of putting pollen on the pistil of a flower to make a new seed
photosynthesis: process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make food
chlorophyll: green coloring matter in plants transpiration: process by which living plants release water
cone: fruit of some evergreen trees, containing the seeds
spores: tiny cells made by mosses and ferns that can grow into new plants
