GEOMETRY WITH DATA ANALYSIS
02073G1000
Grade Level: 9
Prerequisite: 8th Grade Math Course Video
Geometry with Data Analysis is the first of three required courses in high school mathematics. In Geometry with Data Analysis, students incorporate knowledge and skills in Geometry and Measurement, Algebra and Functions, and Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability, leading to a deeper understanding of fundamental relationships within the discipline and building a solid foundation for further study. Students who need additional support while taking Geometry are encouraged to register for a concurrent “lab course” to ensure students can fully participate and succeed in this course. For students who opt to accelerate their mathematical pathways in the 9th grade, Geometry with Data Analysis may also be taken concurrently with Algebra I with Probability.
This is a course that is offered virtually in addition to an in-person class. Students must complete the permission form and turn it in to their counselor. Teachers will communicate expectations regarding classwork and testing in the course syllabus.
GEOMETRY WITH DATA ANALYSIS, ADVANCED LEVEL (+.50 GRADE WEIGHT)
02073E1000
Grade Level: 9 Course Video
Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th grade Algebra I or both 7th Grade Accelerated Math AND 8th Grade Accelerated Math
Recommendations:
A score of 25 or higher on the self-assessment rubric
85% or higher in Algebra I or both 7th Grade Accelerated Math and 8th Grade Accelerated Math
This course is geared to the motivated student who plans to enroll in a Math Advanced Placement course in the future. This course covers more topics than Geometry with Data Analysis with more in-depth and challenging analysis of the major concepts and more emphasis on theory. Logical thinking is developed through concentration on direct proofs. This class also builds on concepts mastered in Algebra I, or both Grade 7 Accelerated Mathematics and Grade 8 Accelerated Mathematics. These courses are necessary for Advanced Algebra II with Statistics the following school year.
GEOMETRY WITH DATA ANALYSIS, MATH TEAM (+.50 GRADE WEIGHT)
02073E1000
Grade Level: 9
Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th grade Algebra I or both 7th Grade Accelerated Math AND 8th Grade Accelerated Math
Required Signature: Math team sponsor approval needed
This course consists of an enriched and Advanced Level geometry course. First semester content includes most of the standard topics for the year excluding formal proofs. Short cuts, formulas, and test taking skills are supplemental. Second semester includes proofs, analysis, problem solving techniques, and introductory Algebra 2 topics. Math team courses prepare students to compete in mathematics tournaments at local, state, regional, and national levels. Students can expect 3-9 Saturday tournaments starting in November. Math team students typically grasp mathematical topics rapidly, are willing to try a "different" way to solve a problem, and are intuitive in math,
***Students who wish to take Algebra II w/Statistics and/or Chemistry as a 10th grader and did not take Accelerated Math 7 and Accelerated Math 8 can earn two math credits as a 9th grader by taking Algebra I w/Probability and Geometry w/Data Analysis.*** This option requires approval and discussion about a student's four-year plan with a counselor.
