Grade 6

The Artists of Sixth Grade tackled optical illusions by creating distance and movement with one point perspective. Experimenting with color schemes like complementary, warm and cool colors their work is bright and energetic!

The Infancy Narratives in the Gospel of Luke and Matthew are front and center for our Sixth Grade Artists. Using an oil resist technique students sketched out their design. Breaking the space into geometric shapes, they carefully added oil and wax crayon, leaving space between their colors. When complete they painted over the entire work with black ink. After washing the ink off the paper a striking image was revealed.

The Color Wheel is an invaluable tool for all artists. Our student artists began this unit on color by learning basic color theory. They practiced primary and secondary colors, warm and cool schemes, and how to create tints and shades. Putting that knowledge into their artwork, they created their own version of a color wheel.
