Shirts to Shape the World
Shirts to Shape the World is a Service Learning Project created in the spring semester of 2025 by Avery Marion and Rish Mitra. The goal of this project is to provide children in Uganda with safe and equal access to education. We worked with the Neshlyn Children's Foundation on this initiative.
About Us
Hello! My name is Avery Marion and I am a sophomore at Holliston High School. I do dance, field hockey, and lacrosse. I am also part of the Leo's Club, am the Treasurer of Best Buddies, am the Vice President of the Class of 2027, and am part of the Global Citizen's Program. I chose to do this project with Rish because I have always been passionate about helping those living in poverty. After conducting reasearch on the Sustainable Developement Goals and current events, I realized how big of a problem educational poverty is. That is why we decided to work on this project together because we both have an interest in helping those in need and have our own knowledge to bring to the project.
Hi! My name is Rish and I am a sophomore at Holliston High School. I am a martial artist and dancer. I am also the Vice President of Fundraising in DECA as well as the District 1st Place Winner in my category (PMBS). I am the upcoming Vice President of LEO's club and have been in GCP since my freshman year. I have always been passionate about doing my part to help out both my local and global community. I decided to work with Avery on this project as we share the interest of helping those living in poverty. Using this common interest we came to understand the extent by which people are affected by poverty and chose to partner with the Neshlyn Children's Foundation to help combat this on a global stage.
Community Need
The cycle of poverty and its impact on education is a universal issue. It is an important issue because education can help break the poverty cycle, provides people with opportunities, and promotes the development of communities. The communities most affected by this issue are developing countries and minority groups such as people of color, women, and those with disabilities. The gap between education in first world countries and developing countries has exponentially increased after the Educational Reforms in the 1960’s. Our project will meet this need by raising awareness around poverty and struggling communities and raising money to better the lives and educational opportunities for the children living there.
Our PSA
Project Goals and Progress
We contacted the Neshlyn Children's Foundation to see how we may assist in their efforts most effectively
We polled for designs and submitted a t-shirt design to the Etsy store which was approved
We sold a couple of T-Shirts
We hung up flyers to attract attention of potential buyers
We reached out to Businesses for Corporate Sponsors and got a donation from the Henry Studios
Art Saves Lives
On May 15th, we had a table at Art Saves Lives. We handed out flyers and told visitors about our project. The T.C. Scoops Ice Cream Truck attended the event and sold ice cream outside. Twenty percent of the profits from the ice cream truck were donated to the Neshlyn Children's Foundation. This was a donation of $140. Thank you to anyone who supported!
Passport Activity
On May 19th we had Norah come in to the library during DSB. She had a PowerPoint for which she shared with a large group of student. We were able to advertise the foundation's goals. Overall, we had an incredible time listening to Norah's music, learning about the foundation and spreading awareness.
Educate the community about the lack of education around the world
Raise money for the Neshlyn Children's Foundation
Hold a clothing and school supplies drive at Holliston High School
Community Partnership
We have chosen to work with the Neshlyn Children's Foundation for this project. They are a non-profit dedicated providing children in Uganda with education, essential resources, and sustainable opportunities for growth. They achieve this through scholarships, construction projects, and creating community-driven initiatives. Through our project we have been selling T-shirts and collecting donations from local businesses. All of the profit is going to the Neshlyn Children's Foundation. We have currently paused t-shirt sales, but would love to take donations through the gofundme accessible from the NCF's website.
How Can the Community Help?
You can help by spreading awareness about the issue. In addition, you can consider supporting the Neshlyn Children's Foundation's mission by making a donation through the foundation's GoFundMe.
