Project Clean Up
Project Clean Up
The Fall season of 2024 marked the beginning of "Project Clean Up." This is a program started by Ethan Neville, Zoe Player, Alessio Pinci, and Bhumin Karunakar. We all share a common interest in caring for our environment and ensuring a healthy future for all of us! Our plan is simple: establish connections and educate our community about pollution and the true purpose of healthy reusable energy practices.
About Us
Bhumin Karunakar
Hi, my name is Bhumin, and I am a Junior at Holliston High School. I am a member of the global citizens program at HHS, and I chose to co-start Project: Clean Up because I believe that pollution and the climate crisis are some of the most important issues that aren't addressed nearly enough today. Partaking in this project allowed me to have a positive impact on our community and make a difference in the fight against pollution and climate change.
Ethan Neville
Hi! My name is Ethan Neville and I am a junior here at Holliston High School. I am a member of the Global Citizens program and a large advocate for recycling and reusable energy. Plastic pollution is not talked about enough and will slowly but surely destroy our Earth if we do not take action. I believe that if I can inform my fellow peers about the importance of proper recycling, I can play my part in the betterment of our climate and Earth. My goals for this project are to bring my community together and educate as many people I can to spread that word.
Alessio Pinci
My name is Alessio Pinci and I am a Junior at Holliston High School. I am a part of the Global Citizens Program at HHS. I am passionate about caring for the environment, and I felt that climate change was an issue not being discussed enough. I chose to work on this project because I wanted to help affect change in my community, and because my partners have like minded goals.
Zoe Player
Hi, my name is Zoe Player! I am currently a sophomore and a member of the Global Citizens Program at Holliston High School. I chose this topic because, from a young age, I have always been interested in helping the planet. Reading the collection of Greta Thunberg’s speeches from climate rallies around the world has been inspiring and I have learned about the growing concern regarding climate change.
Community Need
Zoe Player, Bhumin Karunakar, Ethan Neville, and Alessio Pinci are working together because we believe it is essential to address the issue of pollution. This is an extremely large issue, not only worldwide, but right here in Holliston. A major contributing factor is the increasing level of air pollution including carbon emissions. In the 1900s, cars became available for the average person, increasing air pollution. Now, cars are one of the largest sources of carbon pollutants around the world (56% of all CO). We have experienced changing weather conditions locally this fall in the form of a severe drought. This has also resulted in wildfires, which add to air pollution. In partnership with 350 Mass, Project Clean Up has focused on informing students about this vast environmental issue.
Goals & Progress
We hope to educate students about pollution's impact on our local and global environment.
We also hope to show people that it doesn't take much to take action and bring change to our community. There are many actions, both big and small, that individuals could take that can have a positive impact on the environment.
On November 19th, we brought in 350 Mass to inform students about potential pollution/climate change responses.
Our final action piece was contributing to our community and cleaning up our local Goodwill Park.

Community Partnerships
An organization that enjoyed collaborating with us was 350 Mass because they are passionate about helping the younger generation learn ways to address climate change. Many of their campaigns deal with changing legislation to support the creation of greener communities. David Green and Dawn Durning-Hammond are members of 350 Mass. Through their presentation at HHS, they informed students about reducing carbon emissions.

Green Team
We partnered with Green Team Junk Removal of Holliston in order to gain tons of information regarding proper recycling and where our waste goes after it is thrown away. The Green Team deals with metals, electronics, furniture, clothes, appliances, and other materials that are often times just thrown away not to be used again in the future. 80% of the things they collect are bale to be recycled, reused, or donated. We met with the owner, Fred Cullen, a few times and gained an inordinate amount of valuable information that has pushed us ever further in educating our community.
