This year, Kyleigh Depoto, Jacqueline Vaughn, and Sara Schellings established a club at Holliston High School, HHS Circle of Hope.
What is HHS Circle of Hope?
Our club meetings are essentially a Collection Drive. Every month, we will have an established theme. Some include: Welcome Baby Bags, Dignity Bags, Get Set Packages, Period Pouches, Postpartum Care Kits, and Emergency Clothing Kits. Throughout the month, before the Circle of Hope meeting, we hope to collect donations for these drives. At our meeting, we will put together these collected items in individual bagging. Once everything is completed, we will be contacting the Circle of Hope organization, informing them of our outcome, and either Kyleigh, Jax, or/and Sara will drive to Needham and give them our donations.
Assist families in need, especially targeting the Metrowest, Boston, and Cambridge area. Complete, at least, 5 Collection Drives by July 2025.
Educate Holliston’s community about the negative effects of poverty. Communicate Circle of Hope’s story, along with our intentions of collaborating with this company.
Establish an all-inclusive, engaging club, allowing for a welcoming environment. The picture displayed was for our first club meeting, November 6th. We had over 30 attendees!
Founded in 2008, Circle of Hope is an organization based in Needham, Massachusetts. Over the past 16 years, this organization has achieved various accomplishments. Some include: providing over $8 million in clothing to families across the Metrowest, Boston, and Cambridge area, partnering with over 28 shelters, and serving over 26,000 people. We chose to work with Circle of Hope, for they have done incredible work for numerous people. They are making changes in so many lives. By giving them all of the donations we have collected, then maybe we can make such an impact.
This Organization has also been very helpful in helping us reach our educational goal. As stated in "Project Goals & Progress", we had a club meeting with Christine Ruddy. Here, she zoomed in and shared a 30 minute presentation about Circle of Hope's journey and why it is so helpful to surrounding areas.

Hi, my name is Jax Vaughn and I'm a Junior at Holliston High School. I have participated in pre-professional ballet training for 14 years and have a seven-year background with classical piano. My freshman year, I was originally meant to take a ceramics class, but at the last minute I switched into Intro to GCP. Since then I have loved working with the program, and teaching my peers about global issues. I look forward to my future with GCP.

Hi! I am Sara Schellings, and I am a junior at Holliston High School. Freshman year, I joined the Global Citizenship Program. Through this program, I have been given various opportunities to pursue my passion of developing Holliston's community. Developing HHS Circle of Hope being a portion of my journey, which I am forever grateful for.

Hi! I'm Kyleigh Depoto. I am a junior at Holliston High School. I play three sports: field hockey, lacrosse and basketball. This is my second year of being at Holliston, for I transferred here from Bellingham. And, another fact about me is I have been working on learning how to play the guitar. I joined Service Learning because I wanted to try something new. Certainly, I'm glad I did because, unlike most people, I have the opportunity to help people in need.
When researching topics for our Service Learning Project, we wanted to research a plethora of issues before diving head first into one. Originally, we wanted to focus on mental health, due to its various effects on the teenage population. Though, soon enough, we realized that was a bull we can’t tame, as many projects already exist working towards improving mental health everyday. Thus, came our research about Poverty. Although Holliston is not considered an impoverished place, it is surrounded by numerous locations which are engulfed by the issue. Our community is not isolated. Therefore, in order to succeed, we should be considerate to those around us. As we began researching about how the Metrowest area had been / is being affected by poverty, we all collaboratively decided to dedicate our time working against it.
As a portion of our project, and as mentioned previously, we will be hosting Collection Drives. To support our journey, we would greatly appreciate if you, or someone you know, could contribute to our Collection Drives, specifically through donating. Although these will be spontaneous, when we do host a Collection Drive, there will be publicizing throughout Holliston's community. Mostly, these notices will be online. Our contact information is listed above if you have any questions.
If you are unable to donate directly, you could Venmo to Sara-Schellings. If you are to donate through Venmo, please add a comment emphasizing it is for HHS Circle of Hope.
