The term 'eating disorder' covers a wide range of problems with food, including starving (anorexia), binging and purging (bulimia) and binge eating. The reasons behind eating disorders are varied and complex.

Eating disorders can be associated with negative body image and low self-esteem and also be thought of as similar to anxiety disorders like OCD.
