Our Solution
The main goal of our project is to gather data from people who live in different areas of San Diego and give it to the City of San Diego in order to help them better create the climate action plan for 2035. We asked people to take a survey that is a replica to the one the City of San Diego did in 2020. Our data is hopefully going to serve as reinforcements to a strong climate action plan. The survey asks people of San Diego to describe what they care about and how they’ve experienced environmental racism. We scheduled multiple presentations throughout our school in different classes and personally asked students to help us. We also talked with our mentor Vickie White who works with the City of San Diego in order to understand the steps in the future.
Our Solution
The responses that we got from students and families at High Tech High represent the diverse communities of San Diego. The diversity of responses assists the City of San Diego because it gives them varied data that represents more people. The Climate Action Plan for 2035 will help mitigate and reduce the effects of climate change for each resident. Many of the High Tech High students have lots of problems affecting their neighborhood and how they experience climate change such as pollution, vehicle noise, access to public parks, public transportation, and other infrastructure necessary to alleviate the impacts of climate change. We care deeply about greater representation of those who do not typically get heard. We want to improve our own neighborhoods and access to amenities that reduce climate change.
