OUR STORY
Our project is to plant a tree on a heat island. More specifically a neighborhood with a low amount of trees. We understand that one tree isn’t enough to end a global crisis, but we want to motivate others to plant trees as well. We chose this project after learning about the urban heat island effect during our work with N.O.A.A. in September. With many trial and errors in our project we are learning to take it all in One Tree at a Time.
OUR SOLUTION
We are planting native plants around our school to increase the native plant population, address invasive plants, and reduce the heat island effect. Native plants such as ice plants have overcome San Diego. Planting native plants will reduce the population of these invasive species. These plants will also reduce the heat island effect, which targets urban areas like ours.
