Our Story
The objective of our project is to inform high tech high students about the pilot program which promotes free public transit for people 18 and under. We worked with the Environmental Health Coalition, an organization that has been working to get free transportation for youth. The Environmental Health Coalition specifically works towards benefiting low income communities of color, which is the community we hope to benefit the most. We chose this project because we thought it was something that would best benefit our community that relies on public transit to get to school and home.
Our Solution
Our project addresses climate change because we are targeting carbon emissions. Every gallon of gasoline burned creates about 8,887 grams of carbon dioxide. By making transportation free for young people, we are creating a new generation of people who have the habit of taking public transportation. It will also cut carbon emissions that are created by taking personal cars everyday. When we heard that the notion passed, our ultimate goal was spreading the news throughout our school. We began making infographics to post around school, we talked to multiple classes, and we published a newsletter that was sent out to our whole school. We took school wide data about transportation and used it as evidence that youth will benefit from the program.
