Our Story
Our project this semester is about climate change and how we as students can make an impact on an issue that is so monumental. A major issue we came upon when brainstorming ideas for our project was how misinformed people are about global warming. Most people don’t seem to fully understand what climate change is because it doesn’t only make the planet warm. It affects us in many other ways like colder temperatures, extreme weather, mass extinction, food shortages, health risks, and poverty. So we wanted to spread the word about climate change issues and how anyone can make a difference. Through our school, we partnered with an organization called San Diego 350 who directed us towards our final project, which was to host a movie night in our community to inform people about global warming. The people at San Diego 350 also showed us the amazing Youth v. Gov movie that we screened on Friday, October 29, 2021.
Our Solution
Our first step towards our goal was to educate ourselves and figure out all of our basic needs for the screening such as time, place, and equipment. We gathered information on our topic and chose an interesting and informational movie to show. The movie is about 21 plaintiffs who are suing the government for ignoring their constitutional rights by not trying to fix our climate issue. One of the plaintiffs is as young as 13 and we thought this documentary would be a good inspirational film to get our audience fired up. Hopefully, our project inspired change in our audience and we reached our goals. Our movie night was held outside of our school and a lot of our classmates and their families and friends came to watch the movie.
