Behavioral Specialist

Overview:

  • Write Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students, after Tier 1 and 2 interventions have been attempted without success.
  • Complete formal observations and evaluations to objectively identify the function/s of challenging behavior
  • Develop function-based intervention plans
  • Meet with students who have been identified to me to learn about their needs and develop good relationships with them and their parents/guardians
  • Help to coordinate plans with outside service providers, when necessary
  • Work with teachers, administrators, support staff, school psychologists, related services (OT, PT, speech providers, health services, school counselors, and social workers) to best serve students
  • Do classroom observations and collect/analyze data to assist faculty with classroom management, usually for specific classes or certain students

Referral process:

  • Special Education Teachers and Case Managers should use the google form in the Special Education Team Drive
  • General Education students are referred through CST or building administrators
