Council for Prevention

Overview:

The Challenge Program: is a combination of prevention and treatment services. This is a combined effort between The Council for Prevention and Glens Falls Hospital’s Center for Recovery. We provide weekly group meetings, individual treatment with a LMSW, and challenging outings which vary in length and activity: hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, mini-golfing, etc.). Our program is strength based and promotes healthy relationships, group ownership, values clarification, and accountability for diagnosed substance abusing youth, ages 13-18. Within this setting, clients are able to try newly learned skills in a safe environment and navigate interpersonal relationships due to the unique, closed, group which lasts four months. We focus on skill building and taking youth outside of four-walled therapy while providing two staff to act as role-models and facilitators. We also incorporate families into therapy, conducting home visits and providing opportunities for families to have fun together.

The Amorak Program-Is a collaboration with Amorak. We designed a several week long program in the summer with kayaking. And in the winter with rock climbing were any Hudson falls youth can take part. It is free and there are no requirements other than they have to want to participate in the once a week program for several weeks.
