🎙️ Welcome to Herricks Studios: Content Creation Foundations

Content Creation Foundations is an exciting 8th-grade elective at Herricks Middle School in Albertson, New York, where students dive into the art of podcasting with their teacher, Michael Heit.

Herricks Studios serves as the creative hub for these student-led podcasts—projects that amplify the voices, ideas, and creativity of young storytellers discovering audio for the first time.

💡 Turning Ideas Into Creations

Many of our students are stepping behind the microphone for the very first time—but when you hear their episodes, you’d think they’ve been doing this for years! Through dedication, passion, and teamwork, they’ve produced incredible content that we’re proud to share with the community.

In this elective, students transform their ideas into intellectual creations. They plan episodes, write detailed show notes, and learn to record, edit, and master their podcasts—bringing their visions to life right here at Herricks Studios

🎧 The “Three Cua/Qua’s of Podcasting”

Each year begins with our core framework—the Three Cua/Qua’s of Podcasting:

• Content: Researching and sourcing information to build engaging topics.

• Quality: Practicing microphone techniques and vocal exercises for a polished sound.

• Chemistry: Developing genuine connections with co-hosts and audiences for an authentic listening experience.

Students start with short preview episodes—their Episode #000—a quick “movie trailer” introducing their show’s concept and personality. From there, full episodes roll out, showcasing their growth, creativity, and collaboration.

🌟 A Culture of Creativity

Mr. Heit fosters a creative and collaborative environment where students feel safe to take risks, explore ideas, and experiment with new formats. It’s common to hear, “What if we tried this?” as students brainstorm and refine their concepts together.

Behind the scenes, these young podcasters are learning far more than production—they’re building confidence, communication, and teamwork skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
