MESSAGE FROM AD RILEY:

Welcome back, SMS Tiger family!  The Stockbridge Middle School Athletics Department is excited to usher in another exciting year of cheering, touchdowns, strikeouts, three-pointers, pinfalls, spikes, and photo finishes! I am Kwame Riley and as your SMS Athletics Director I have never been more excited about the hard work and dedication our athletes and coaches are putting in to make this the best year ever for SMS Athletics! We are striving to provide a positive athletic environment rooted in our athletics departments’ four pillars of Accountability, Discipline, Character, and Integrity. Our core mission is to use athletics as a platform to grow our young student athletes, equipping them with the necessary tools they can use on the field of life.  

As your Athletic Director, it is my privilege to work alongside our coaches, student-athletes, families, and community to ensure our sports program is a positive, competitive, and lifelong educational experience. Middle school athletics should be about much more than just wins and losses—it’s about learning teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and excellence. Our athlete’s “why” must be greater than them. Our goal is to help every athlete grow not only in skills, but also in life. Together, let’s make this a phenomenal year! Go Tigers!

Our SMS Lady Tigers Girl's Basketball Team is expecting great things this upcoming season with a new head coach and a lot of potential! Be on the lookout because the Lady Tigers are on the prowl!

Our SMS Tigers Boy's Basketball Team is ready for a bounce back season in 2025 - 2026! They Tigers are returning several key players and are looking to challenge for county supremacy this upcoming season.

Our SMS Tigers Wrestling Team is in rebuild mode after a highly successful 2024 - 2025 campaign. The Tigers will scrap and fight tooth and nail throughout the season and expect to be in the mix for the top of the county food chain! The SMS Tigers Wrestlers are on the prowl! 

SPOTLIGHT ON TEAM,PLAYERS, AND COACHES

Congrats to our new Girl's Head Basketball Coach Shanterria King as she leads a revamped SMS Lady Tigers Basketball Squad! After several years as the Lady Tigers Assistant Coach Coach King is ready to take over and lead the Lady Tigers back to the top of Henry COunty Girl's Basketball scene.

Congrats as well to Coach Traonna Shedrick as she takes on her new position as SMS Tigers Boy's Basketball Coach. Coach Shedrick will lead the revitalized boys team as they bounce back from a disappointing 2024 - 2025 season. Coach Shedrick comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are expecting huge things out of our Tiger basketball team this upcoming season.

athletes to watch

Our athlete to watch will be Ilan Kamara as he is our loan returning wrestler and looks to lead the SMS wrestlers through a tough county schedule.

ATHLETE(S) OF THE MONTH

JaNaya Mosely is a Student Ambassador, pianist, and excels in Advanced Spanish. JaNaya is also a key member of our school's announcement commentators' team.

Madison Williams is a 2025 Homecoming Queen at SMS. She is also a member of our First Ladies Youth Leadership Foundation. Amazingly enough Madison also is a member of the Delta Academy and she is a Student Ambassador. Madison is also very active as a member of our student council, Advanced Spanish, and STYEM Gem programs. Additionally, Madison participates in cheer and step. Her numerous awards include Junior Rising Star and Young and Gifted.

Congrats to both our lady student athletes for all of their amazing contributions and accomplishments.

KEY WINTER DATES

Dec. 4th is our Girl's and Boy's Basketball Season Opener against the Jaguars from Austin Road. This promisses to be an exciting home opener.

ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS

Congrats to Bryce Golden (football & wrestling) for excelling in the classroom. Bryce has maintained an A average all season and has routinely assisted in peer lead after schgool tutoring groups with other teammates! Keep up the excellent work Bryce!
