Aims of the Course
The OCR GCSE Business qualification provides students with the hands-on experience of preparing to go into business. Students will gain an understanding of the key characteristics of an entrepreneur and how they go about forming a business. key components of ensuring its success and an opportunity to design and pitch their own ideas.
Any student looking to enter the business world would gain insight in the decisions companies make and theory behind them. At the same time however they also develop practical hands on skills: the needs to present, to convince, to design.
The structure of the GCSE in Business Studies
Unit 1 Business 01: Business activity, marketing and people
An introduction to business concepts and issues concerning the activities of a business. You will explore the purpose and role of a business from spotting opportunities, through to the growth of an established business. You will also look at the role of marketing and human resources.
Unit 2 Business 02: Operations, finance and influences on business
In this unit you will take a closer look at the role of operations and finance in business activity. Operations include production processes, quality of goods and services, customer service, and working with suppliers. The finance aspect of the course covers its role, its sources, costs, profit and loss, cash and cash flow. This is where the mathematical element of the course is studied.
You will also explore how business responds to external influences, such as ethical and environmental considerations, the economic climate and globalisation. By the end of the course each student will be able to articulate the importance of good business practice.
Above are two examples of past papers that have been sat. These papers can be used to help aid the students understanding of example questions and the scenario's that are provided throughout a set amount of questions.
Further Progression
At the conclusion of the course students will have the capability to develop their skills and knowledge further with a L3 business qualification. Alternatively, students may have found they have developed the skills they need to set up their own small business and become entrepreneurs for themselves. Even Richard Branson and Alan Sugar started small!
