Both papers are 1hr and 30 minutes in length.  Paper 1 will assess students on their ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and principles of Computer Science. Paper 2 will assess students on their ability to apply knowledge and understanding of key concepts and principles of Computer Science.

All students will be given the opportunity to undertake a programming task(s), either to a specification or to solve a problem (or problems), during their course of study. Students may draw on some of the content in both components when engaged in Practical Programming.

This is a highly academic course. Students should have a strong academic background in Mathematics and an extracurricular passion for programming.

Further Progression

Studying Computer Science lays the foundation for further study in Computer Science A Level at Sixth form college. By continuing your academic career and completing a Computer Science related degree. This pathway could lead to a job or a Degree Apprenticeship starting from 20K a year.

The Sixth form colleges will be looking for students to have achieved a Grade 6 or higher at GCSE Computer Science in order to demonstrate their capability of dealing with topics in the field of Computer Science. The average salary for Computer Science jobs is £57, 500.
