The treasurer is responsible for:
managing all incoming and outgoing PTA money
keeping accurate records and submitting written financial statements for meetings
providing the principal’s secretary with a summary of teacher money spent based on PTA budget passed at the beginning of the year
chairing the Budget Committee, which prepares and monitors the annual budget;
ensures an audit, financial review or compilation is done in accordance with the bylaws;
prepares an annual report to be used to review PTA financial records;
files our PTA's 990 report to the IRS on time;
and submits state-level reports and filings as required.
oversees proper handling of money, such as
ensuring money is collected, counted, recorded and deposited promptly and appropriately
and ensures financial checks and balances are in place at all times.
reviews spending and income at each PTA meeting (as well as at General PTA Meetings as required) explaining the budget to all present at that meeting.
Requirements: must have solid knowledge of record keeping and general finances.
Time commitment: a moderate level of involvement throughout the school year, and particularly when managing memberhub/givebacks payments and preparing annual budgets.
